one day

May 4th, 2008

I am dedicated to the vision that one day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. I commit two years to Teach For America and to the school in which I am placed. I will constantly strive to meet the needs of my students and will do my best in the pursuit of educational equity and excellence. I realize that I have made a commitment to the Teach For America community, including my fellow corps members, staff, and alumni, as we work to strengthen the organization and strive to reach our collective vision.

I AM PART OF THE 2008 TEACH FOR AMERICA CORPS!!! Not only that, but I got my top regional and subject preferences: Houston and early childhood education.

malaise

April 18th, 2008

tfa acceptance status goes out today:
committed to finishing my paper yet somehow ended up writing in here at 4:53 in the morning
slept all of 90 minutes tonight, woke up to stare at a computer screen
can one feel both hungry and full at the same time? perhaps, i am so hungry that i feel full.

am i starving myself: have lost five pounds in the past week. have not weighed this much (little?) since initial weight loss freshman year. have difficulty keeping meat down after eating.

ironically enough, i am not nearly as obsessed with my body now as i was four or five years ago. i used to scrutinize myself all the time; my skewed body image and self consciousness was unhealthy. now, rather than worrying about a thick waist, i worry that my brain is decaying that my intelligence is softening that i am fulfilling my potential.

and i am defensive. words meant well become insidious, nasty remarks. an innocent comment cuts deep. and i feel worse for holding loved ones and friends accountable for my twisted interpretations.
i am not well.

viral

March 11th, 2008

While writing this post I found it interesting that the three “viral” videos in this post were discovered through traditional forms of media. I found out about the scrabulous music video from an All Things Considered bit that I heard while on the road last Friday. Then, over the weekend, I read about the Sarah Silverman & Jimmy Kimmel videos in Newsweek. At this point, part of me feels that I could make some grand connections or observations about how old media will continue to find ways to connect and incorporate hipper forms of technology…

But that is besides the point, which is, TO WATCH THESE VIDEOS.

“If you ain’t got no vocab, take your broke ass home!!” Leave it to ScrabbleSCRABULOUS to make Fergie tolerable.

For all the non-tv watching people that live under the same gossipless rock, Sarah Silverman is f*cking Matt Damon. Though I thought it was rehearsed, Kimmel said he was genuinely surprised when they aired it. SCRABULOUS reference at 3:29 <3

Then Kimmel served it back to Silverman twofold with the news that he’s f*cking Ben Affleck… and everybody from Brad Pitt to Harrison Ford to Josh Groban is celebrating their union.

er…pun not intended.
